Not quite 365 days question meme

13. January is the best time to see the bright gas giant planet Jupiter in the sky – have you ever seen it?

I can't. Say as I have. I probably look up and say, “I see it.” But I I doubt that I do. I'm constantly looking up. The sky is always so beautiful. But I have no idea what I’m looking for.

Snowflake Challenge: Three men wearing santa hats standing on the beach at sunset

Top 10 Challenge: The category(ies) you choose are up to you. You can give top 10 Fics you read last year, the top 10 songs to create to, the to 10 guest stars on your favorite show, top 10 characters in your favorite book series, top 10... well, you get the idea.

(Can't think of 10 of anything? That's okay, 10 is just an abstract. It's totally up to you.)

Series I have enjoyed and happily reread.

1. Murderbot by Martha Wells

2. The Expanse by James S.A, Corey

3. Library of the Unwritten by A.J. Hackwith

4. Finder series by Suzanne Palmer

5. Sector General by James White

6. Discworld by Terry Pratchett (with a special love for Sam Vimes)

7. So you want to be a Wizard by Diane Duane

8. The Black Stallion by Walter Farley

9. Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey

10. Excultus by Mottlemoth

This fanfic series blew me away. You don't know need to know a thing about the Sherlock fandom because this is a complete AU. In the 23rd century, two hundred years of genetic tampering has fractured humanity into subspecies.

11. Special mention: Bahamian-Style Mooring by syllic.

A story that no Shawshank Redemption lover should miss. This was the story I didn't know I needed until I read it.

I'm not ashamed to say, by the time I finished, my cheeks were wet.

These are just the ones off the top of my head. I've read--let's say A LOT and leave it at that. 😊📚

Not quite 365 days questions for day 12.

I'm a little early with this. It's not the 12th for another 45 minutes.

12. In 1948, the first Supermarket in the UK opened - the Co-op, the country’s first permanent self-service store, in East London’s Manor Park. Do you use one specific supermarket to buy groceries, and do they have a loyalty card scheme you belong to? How does it work?

Can you imagine how excited people were to see Grocery stores for the first time? I don't know what we'd do without our grocery store by our house. In fact, we have two that both offer very good sales each week. We shop at both stores. We also shop at Costco, which is a big warehouse. I love Costco for large quantities. We only shop there every 7-9 weeks. Then we go to Walmart for cleaning supplies and other things. It's close to our house, too. 1948 isn't too far off from my birth year. By the time I was old enough to go shopping, we had grocery stores all over town. And now people call in their grocery orders and have them filled, then swing by to pick everything up between 3-5:00. We have not tried that. I enjoy walking throughout the store. Good exercise, and I might find something that calls to me to make for dinner that night. Does anyone use that grocery delivery service? My brother in New Mexico uses it. He can't drive because he's losing his eyesight, so he puts in an order every week. He loves it. In his case, I think that's a good deal. For me, not so much.

Fannish Fifty Challenge 2026: Post # 2: More Joy Day giving & receiving

What I did for More Joy Day: wrote a Guardian ficlet Zhen Hun Bibliomancy Tanka for [personal profile] amedia; made a donation to Fraser.org, an organization that supports mental health, emotional health, and disability care (made as a memorial donation in memory of [personal profile] andeincascade and I notified Ande's family about it); sent a letter of appreciation to my primary-care doctor of many years who retired last month; sent letters of solidarity to neighbors who have "No Kings in America" signs in their front yard; sent an ILU letter and fannish bookmark to a fan who -- the day before More Joy Day -- posted the comment "tell someone you love them today".

What I received for More Joy Day: a due South x Venom crossover fic The Pause That Reinvigorates by [personal profile] petra and a penpal-type letter in the postal mail from [personal profile] oldtoadwoman. (The letter did not say it was FOR More Joy Day, but it arrived ON More Joy Day, so I'm "counting" it.)
