Is this for fanworks only, or can I create something original?

Both are equally welcome!

What types of works are allowed?

Basically, if you created it in some way, then it's okay. You can write, draw, sculpt, compose, whatever!

Must my work be about plants or summer?

Definitely not! You can use the wildflower name you're given as inspiration in any way you choose.

What are the minimum/maximum requirements?

There are none. Doesn't matter if it's a rough sketch or a polished painting, a drabble or an epic, etc.

I'd like to sign up, but I don't have a DW account. Can I still take part?

Absolutely! You can either comment anonymously on the sign-up post, or with OpenID. The latter enables you to use some other social-media account you may have, such as Twitter. You can also email me if you'd prefer, and I'll send you the name of your wildflower.

I'd like to post my finished work to the AO3 collection, but I don't have an account.

Let me know and I'll do my best to get you an invite.

Sure thing! And I plan on making a list here in the community, the way I did for The Cocktail Hour, with all the works alphabetically ordered by wildflower -- so that's okay, too! Just don't forget to send me the link by PM or email or whatever, so I can include it.

It's a bit hard to answer without specifics, but in general the answer is no; you're free to create whatever you want.

Oh, you meant like that...! Sorry for misunderstanding, I get it now. And yes, that's perfectly okay -- you can also just use "choose not to warn" if you don't want to tag a bunch of stuff, whatever you prefer.

Secondly: yes, please! I'm really excited that you're inspired to do some cross-stitching, and would love to see the result! I think you could possibly also post it on AO3, if you wanted to...? Or add a photo to the notes of your fic, maybe? But I could also simply link to it in the round-up post that I'll be making here in this community, if you so prefer! Whatever you decide, please do show me, at least!

Hello again! I've been really enjoying seeing what everyone gets as their prompt (mine is the nicest--speaking in a completely objective way, of course! XD ), and I can't be the only one who'd love to know how you came up with the list--there are so many lovely wildflowers! <3

Hi again! :D I'm thrilled that you've been enjoying seeing all the wildflower names, and that you like your own! Thank you for asking about this; you're always so thoughtful and kind, and I want you to know that I really appreciate it ♥

But the answer isn't very exciting, I'm afraid! All my books on flowers were pretty useless, as they didn't include any English names, so it's all from online sources. I basically just looked around on various websites, and copied down names that stood out to me in some way. I also tried to make sure to include plants from all over the world, everywhere from Iceland to South Africa and so on. I discovered that there are a lot of really comprehensive resources out there! I used everything from official sites for national parks to sites made by hobbyists -- to mention just one: https://www.irishwildflowers.ie, where you can browse Irish wildflowers by color or by name.

Thanks for answering this--I actually found it super interesting to know how you created the list! That Irish wildflower site looks great, it's just so cool to fall into research rabbit holes! And I love that you've included flowers from all over the world, that's such a nice detail!

No, you're all good, just posting it there is enough -- though of course you're free to crosspost wherever after collection reveals! And please don't worry, even if you do somehow goof up it's not a big deal at all :)

What exactly was it that didn't work when you tried to add the pics on AO3? Did you try to post them directly (using img src), or as a link (a href)? I also want to repeat what I said to you before, about not needing to include any pics -- so only do it if it's something you yourself want.

It should work, I do it all the time. So I just took out the pictures. No biggy. That little box on this post is what showed up on my final posting. No picture would show up at all.

Sorry, I can't say what the problem is without seeing the exact HTML you used. But if I had to hazard a guess, could it have anything to do with hotlinking? Did you upload the pics yourself, like to Imgur or wherever? I'll gladly try to help you figure it out if you want, but it's totally up to you!

Aww, thank you! I'm really glad you like it ♥ I created this community in late July last year, and have done three events since then. All of them are one-off challenges though; i.e. they (most probably) won't happen again. I also run bethefirst which runs on a fixed schedule twice a year, but this place is a bit wilder ;D I hope you'll take part next time too, whenever and whatever it ends up being!

i was wondering if we could crosspost this with other events? so say you give us a flower and what we do happens to correlate with that flower and another event are we allowed to post it to both events (given the other event is okay with it too?)

Yes, that's fine! The only caveat is if you add it to another AO3 collection, then that one must be revealed by the 22nd (otherwise people wouldn't be able to see your work).

1- does this have a select 'close off date' i havent seen one so far

2- for those of us kinda dumb on flowers would you be willing to give a little flower based knowledge our way for inspo if asked?

1. Well, there's the deadline...? Your work needs to be submitted to the collection before 23.59 GMT on the 22nd of June. But if you mean the sign-ups, then no, there's nothing of the sort -- they will remain open till the deadline, basically!

2. Sure, I'll try my best! I doubt I'll be able to tell you anything you couldn't find yourself in books or online, but maybe I can still help you brainstorm. So just let me know what wildflower you got, yes?
