So this was written for the 7 Wildflowers challenge for Midsummer. The flower I was given was Dog's Mercury.
Dog's Mercury is toxic to animals, but in my story I have made it toxic to humans as well.
Ryan Ross is one of the best witches in his principality. He runs a potion shop with his oldest friend, Spencer Smith. He's rare in that he's able to refine Dog's Mercury for use in potions. He doesn't care that it's dangerous, he just wants to make enough money to get Spencer and himself out of their bigoted and narrow-minded village, to escape to the magical land of Gensia.
Although I have put Ryan and Spencer as the pairing on this, this is pre-slash as Spencer has no idea how Ryan feels about him.

And certain things remind him of that past, even something as simple as a rabbit stew - given by friends, and eaten with the one he saved the world with.
