Gearing up for the flash round over at [community profile] bethefirst

Reveals!

The collection is now open! A total of 22 works, just waiting for you to check them out ;D

Thank you all so much for participating ♥ I've had a great time running this, and I really hope you've had fun too!

Final Deadline Reminder

The deadline is almost upon us, which means that there's now one day left to finish your work(s)! Technically, that is, because I'll throw in the same "surprise" mini-extension as I always do, and keep the collection open for submissions until roughly an hour before reveals (which will happen at 00:01 GMT on the 9th).

Good luck to everyone who's still working, and thank you for taking part! ♥

Deadline and title reminder

There's now roughly a week left to submit your works to the AO3 collection. I hope all is going well, but if you're struggling with your title please don't hesitate to ask for a replacement! Or, if everything is on track, feel free to ask for another title if you'd like to create multiple things :D

Also, please remember that — as per the challenge — your work should bear the title you were given. I'm sending PMs where possible, but it'd be a great help if you could take note of this when posting. Thanks!

And finally, I wish you all a happy new year!

Hi there, and welcome to the Western Title Challenge!

This is a low-pressure challenge that works in the following way: When you sign up you'll receive a title randomly picked from an old western series. You then have to create a work of any type that's inspired by and has that title.

Titles will be taken from the following series:

Alias Smith And Jones (1971)
Bonanza (1959)
Cheyenne (1955)
Have Gun, Will Travel (1957)
Laramie (1959)
The High Chaparral (1967)
The Virginian (1962)

If you have a preference for one of these, please say so in your sign-up! Otherwise I will randomly pick both the series and the episode/title.

If the title you receive doesn't do anything for you, just ask for another! You can also ask for multiple titles if you'd like to create more than one work.

The deadline to submit your works to the AO3 collection is at 23:59 GMT on the 7th of January. It will go live at 00:01 GMT on the 9th of January, Lee Van Cleef's 100th birthday.

Please see the FAQ for more information, and don't hesitate to ask if anything is unclear!

FAQ

Is this for fanworks only, or can I create something original?

Both are equally welcome!

What types of works are allowed?

Basically, if you created it in some way, then it's all good. You can write, draw, sculpt, compose, whatever!

Must my work have something to do with the western genre?

No, not at all!

How closely must I stick by the title I was given?

You can take as much or as little inspiration from it as you want. Even the most loose and vague interpretation of it is totally fine!

What are the minimum/maximum requirements?

There are none. Doesn't matter if it's a rough sketch or a polished painting, a drabble or an epic, etc.

I'd like to sign up, but I don't have a DW account. Can I still take part?

Absolutely! You can either comment anonymously on the sign-up post, or with OpenID (which enables you to use some other social-media account you may have). You can also email me if you'd prefer, and I'll send you your title.

I'd like to post my finished work to the AO3 collection, but I don't have an account.

Just let me know and I'll send you an invite.

I have another question...

Hi there, and welcome to Seven Wildflowers!

This is a low-pressure challenge that works in the following way: When you sign up you'll receive the name of a wildflower. You then have to take inspiration from it in some way — the name itself, the look and color of the plant, its history or uses, etc. — and create a work of any type. (And, if you'd like, mention which flower you got in the notes when you post your work.)

If the wildflower you receive doesn't do anything for you, just ask for another! You can also ask for multiple names if you'd like to create more than one work.

The deadline to submit your works to the AO3 collection is at 23.59 GMT on the 22nd of June. It will go live at 00.01 GMT on the 24th of June, Midsummer, where tradition dictates the picking of seven different kinds of wildflowers to then be placed under your pillow, in order to dream about your future true love.

Please see the FAQ for more information, and don't hesitate to ask if anything is unclear!

Final Deadline Reminder

The deadline now looms very near, but here's a little extension for you! I'll be keeping the AO3 collection open for submissions until an hour before reveals — it's not much, but it still gives you an extra day if you need it. Also, if you're posting your work somewhere else, don't forget to give me the link so that I can include it in the roundup post.

Apologies to those who have contacted me during the last few days! My ISP went down over the holidays, and I just got back online. I'm working on getting caught up and responding ASAP, so please hang on just a little while longer.

Good luck to everyone who's still working, and thank you for taking part! ♥

Hi there, and welcome to The Cocktail Hour!

This is a low-pressure challenge that works in the following way: When you sign up you'll receive the name of a mixed drink. You then have to take inspiration from it in some way — literal, figurative, using it as the title of your work, anything goes! — and create a work of any type. (And, if you'd like, mention which cocktail you got in the notes when posting your work.)

If the drink name you receive doesn't do anything for you, just ask for another! You can also ask for multiple cocktails if you'd like to create more than one work.

The deadline to submit your works to the AO3 collection is at 23:59 GMT on the 30th of December. It will go live at 00:01 GMT on New Year's Day, a traditional time to enjoy drinks.

Thank you all so much for participating ♥ I've had a great time running this, and I really hope you've had fun too!

Regarding the titles...

Please remember that your work should bear the title you were given! That was the challenge here, but I'm sorry it was apparently unclear. I've been sending PMs to those in question, and will keep doing so where possible, but it'd be a great help if you could take note of this when posting. Thanks!

The collection will open in roughly eleven hours, so this is also the very last call for submissions!

Final Deadline Reminder

You now have only a day left to finish your work(s)! ...Is what I should be saying, BUT WAIT! How about a little surprise extension? I'll keep the AO3 collection open for submissions until an hour before reveals — it's not much, but it still gives you an extra day if you need it. (If you're here via [community profile] bethefirst then this surprise extension probably won't be much of a surprise, but I hope it's welcome nonetheless ;D)

Good luck to everyone who's still working, and thanks again for taking part! ♥

A big thanks to everyone who has signed up! I really wasn't expecting a lot of interest for this, so I'm utterly floored by how many are taking part! I can't wait to see what you all create ♥
